Find the slope of the line through (2, 3) and (5, 9)
Compute the slope, y-intercept and equation of the line through two points.
Solution
- Points P₁(2, 3), P₂(5, 9)
- Slope m = (y₂ − y₁)/(x₂ − x₁) = (9 − 3)/(5 − 2) = 2
- y-intercept b = y₁ − m·x₁ = 3 − 2·2 = -1
- Slope-intercept y = 2x − 1
- Point-slope y − 3 = 2(x − 2)
